Live From The WOW Hall...

This past weekend was definitely memorable and definitely had its fair dose of neon, all thanks to the guys of the band Con Bro Chill and some of my fellow Ducks! I mean, it's not every weekend you can say you went to a dance marathon/concert in a former fraternal benefit society lodge wearing animal masks and surrounded by friends both new and old while doing Jazzercise to an electronic-rock-pop-disco-funk infusion group.

The concert crew-- myself, Erica, Daniel, Corrin, and Blythe.
If you haven't heard of Con Bro Chill, you're not alone. None of the people I brought with to the concert had heard of them before, other than my buddy Blythe, who I'd shown some of their tunes to this summer. The band was pretty silly. They dressed incognito and performed as their own opening band for beginners! It was ridiculous and no one in the audience had a clue what was going on, but it was hilarious nonetheless.

The "fan of the show" was chosen to be the last American eagle.
At one point we all sang the Star Spangled Banner as the lead guitarist shredded those high notes when suddenly the band broke into their song "Born Free America" and a random dude from the audience got to jump around and dance like a bird on stage in a human-sized eagle costume. Our animal masks came in handy during the "Party Like An Animal" jam.

We made sure not to wear these too much in public, less we be pinned as bank robbers.
The venue was a place in downtown Eugene called WOW Hall. The WOW stands for "Woodmen of the World," which is an organization that used to own the building dating back to the 1930s. Today, however, it's a community performing arts locale that reminded me of a middle school gym built in 1968. Very quaint. Since it was downtown, we had to make a pre-show stop at Voodoo Doughnut, a mostly Portland but also Eugene staple. Eugene does have a very cute downtown, but at night the large transient community makes themselves especially present.

This is Lily Gordon with DuckTV News.
And maybe that will be something I'm reporting on as part of my new gig with Duck TV News, the university's TV station. I was contacted today that I've been selected (after auditioning) to be a part of the news team! I'm very excited for what it will bring and to become involved in broadcast news here on campus. Who knows, maybe I'll be reporting on the next concert I go to as part of the human interest beat or interviewing professors and students about the hot topics of the week. The possibilities are bountiful! But for now, it's time to study!
