Get Ready for Some Lily Gordon Stand-up!

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm pleased to announce this week I'll be doing my first stand-up in Eugene! You're probably thinking, as I did not too long ago, that stand-up is the comedy one finds at good ol' Capitol City Theater or the Apollo with Amy Schumer or after Christmas dinner when Uncle Carl has had too much egg nog, but it's (thankfully) not so. The kind of stand-up I'm talking about is when a reporter is on the scene of the story addressing the camera directly. That will be me this week on Duck TV!

From camerawoman to reporter!
My story has to do with REI, but I won't give the juicy details away until the newscast airs. The Duck TV News team has lots of talented people and it's been interesting getting to know and learn from them. This past week I worked on a human interest story with two other women on the team about giant pumpkins. It was quite festive and we got to drive out to a quaint, family-owned pumpkin patch just outside of Eugene to interview the grower of a 2,000 pound pumpkin.

An example of news reporter stand-up.
Every week I become better acquainted with Eugene and I'm liking it more and more. Matthias, the faculty member responsible for the German immersion hall, took us on a bike ride around town. The bike paths along the river are beautiful with all the bright leaves and we even stopped by the Saturday Market which was full to the brim with potent and yummy smells, organic food, colorful crafts and just as colorful people.

I don't think we saw any non-organic produce.
Eugene's a great university town and I'm truly loving my time here. I don't have a great deal of downtime, but my tennis game is improving (let me know if you want to hit at the UO or during breaks!), I'm being exposed to thought-provoking German literature and film, and I'm even planning my Eugene stand-up debut. College never fails to surprise and present me with new opportunities. But for now it's time to study!
