Supertramp + Bronies = My First Day of German School

Well, school here is interesting. It's "Project Week" at Victoriaschule so the normal schedule is out the window. Instead, we've broken into separate project groups to work together all week. I chose the "Subcultures" group in order to learn about German culture.

My new student ID-- in Saxon colors!

However, the teacher was super keen on me doing a presentation about an American subculture, so I jokingly mentioned Bronies. One thing leads to another and I'm now doing a full-on research project with another girl in the group about Bronies. BRONIES. I find it pretty amusing. This is not what I'd expected my first day in a Gymnasium.

I've never heard geil (which can mean awesome in German) used so many times as when my classmates saw my über-geil infographic.
The other kids are nice and pretty friendly. My Brony Project partner invited me out to lunch with her and another girl, so we went to Subway. They don't have cheddar here! I mean, the German cheeses are probably overall better than cheddar, but come on Subway. Another surprise was they aren't advertising for $5 foot longs all over the place. Obviously they don't use dollars here, but they also use the metric system. You could get a €5, 30 centimeter sandwich instead. Just not quite as catchy sounding.

There's a poster for CBYX in Victoriaschule's atrium area.
Then this evening, my host parents and I went to a Roger Hodgson concert. He was one of the frontmen of Supertramp in the 1970s and sounded awesome live. The mean age of the audience was definitely 50s and 60s, but they were all super into the music. Kudos to the saxophone player! He not only wailed on the saxophones but had a killer falsetto.

He was accompanied by the full Aachen orchestra.
Germans sure seem to know how to enjoy an outdoor concert. People brought whole picnic get-ups and set them up in the general admission area on the lawn. There were fold-up picnic tables decked out with complete place settings, several fancy bottles of wine, numerous courses, and even candles. People brought their candelabras! Apparently there's a contest to win the "Best Picnic Set Up" during the Kurpark Classix Summer Concert Series.

Pre-concert.
All in all it was a positive day. The kids didn't shove me in a locker (maybe because there aren't any lockers!) and I got to hear Breakfast in America preformed live two times. Living the life.
