Velma and Shaggy Take Eschweiler

Well, Halloween was a success. Not only did I get to wear a costume, enjoy a few sweets, and dance all night, but I also got the chance to reunite with some other CBYXers. It was fun getting to experience the German version of Halloween alongside some fellow countrymen.

Scooby Doo, where are you???
One of the other CBYXers had her birthday yesterday, so she invited us all out to a club in Eschweiler, which is I guess what you could consider a borough of Aachen. It was cool seeing another part of the greater Aachen area. That said, it was also a bit unsettling riding a bus I've never ridden before sitting across from a gang of seven- and eight-year-olds who are drenched in blood and (I'm assuming) ready to trick-or-treat.

What's better than a birthday card? A punny birthday rock, of course!

Quite a bit of the club clientele went all-out for Halloween. I dressed as Velma from Scooby Doo and my buddy Lucas was Shaggy. Our costumes were definitely more family friendly gore-wise than most of the others I saw there. There was even a little table in the restaurant area where makeup artists were bloody-ing up people's faces. Pretty spooky.

A+ for the light show.
So after dancing the night away, the remaining CBYXers and I grabbed some very early morning baked goods, which meant my first Berliner (as in jelly-filled doughnut) experience in Aachen. Overall I feel very satisfied with my German Halloween. It was everything the holiday should be: spooky, fun, and sweet (in the sugar sense, of course). And now it's time to start thinking about the other most magical time of the year-- Christmas!

Waiting for the train... that doesn't run on Saturdays.
