TED Talks: Women Laughing And Eating Salad

Yesterday morning the tenth through twelfth graders were told to go to the assembly/theater room. Once everyone was there, my religion teacher stood up at the front of the auditorium and started to give what I'd call a TED Talk about women eating salad while laughing. I am not lying.

I mean, how can you not giggle while eating salad?

He explored laughter through its biological roots, mentioning chimps and our predecessors. Somehow he was able to weave together Beyonce, Eminem, Lana Del Ray, the gradual shift in the style of art depicting Jesus in the 1200-1500s, International Laughing Yoga Day, the Middle Ages, and some light Aristotle into a cohesive, ten minute presentation. There were pictures, so I'm positive he mentioned all of those things. He was deadpan the whole time, which added to the randomness of it all. So speaking of happy eating, here are a few food-related items that have caught my attention:

Cafétoria. It's a combo of "caféteria" plus "Viktoriaschule," which is pretty clever. The food is amazingly good, especially for a school. Whereas the South pizza is more like cardboard than dough, the Cafétoria freshly bakes individual pizzas on pizza day. They also have traditional German food, like this week they had Germknödel, Käsespätzle, and BockwurstTo top it all off the people working there are super awesome. This afternoon the main cook dude helped a little seventh grader with her math homework by yelling the order of operations across the cafeteria.

My official Cafétoria key fob!

Currywurst. Okay, I've mentioned this before, but it's the best. I've only really had it here if I'm hanging out downtown at an event or with friends or something. If you're in Germany, you've got to stop and get some Currywurst mit Pommes.

It tastes better than it looks, I promise.

Milk. Apparently milk isn't legally "milk" here if it's completely fat-free. I grew up drinking fat-free milk, so I'm just accustomed to that taste. The normal milk here is delicious, but a little too rich for my afternoon beverage. Sometimes I'm just craving a cold, tall glass of milk when I come home from a long day of school. Refreshing to the hundredth power.

Ja! just for Lily!
Kinder Überraschung. These are also known as "Kinder Surprise Eggs" in English-speaking countries. However, they're illegal in the US. This 1938 Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act was created that specifically says you can't sell food with toys inside, which pretty much exactly describes the adorable, little Kinder Überraschung chocolate eggs. Each one has a fun trinket inside! Shout out to Merlin the Ü-Ei Wizard of Viktoriaschule for showing them to me!

Even Bronies can enjoy their Kinder Überraschungsei!
When I was in the store checking out the Kinder Eggs, I noticed they already have the Christmas stuff out. It's not even Thanksgiving! I mean, it won't be Thanksgiving here, but you get my point. Halloween is still a month away! Well, with Christmas right around the corner, I guess I just keep on happily eating my salad in preparation for all of the winter goodies I've been hearing about.
