I mean, how can you not giggle while eating salad? |
He explored laughter through its biological roots, mentioning chimps and our predecessors. Somehow he was able to weave together Beyonce, Eminem, Lana Del Ray, the gradual shift in the style of art depicting Jesus in the 1200-1500s, International Laughing Yoga Day, the Middle Ages, and some light Aristotle into a cohesive, ten minute presentation. There were pictures, so I'm positive he mentioned all of those things. He was deadpan the whole time, which added to the randomness of it all. So speaking of happy eating, here are a few food-related items that have caught my attention:
Cafétoria. It's a combo of "caféteria" plus "Viktoriaschule," which is pretty clever. The food is amazingly good, especially for a school. Whereas the South pizza is more like cardboard than dough, the Cafétoria freshly bakes individual pizzas on pizza day. They also have traditional German food, like this week they had Germknödel, Käsespätzle, and Bockwurst. To top it all off the people working there are super awesome. This afternoon the main cook dude helped a little seventh grader with her math homework by yelling the order of operations across the cafeteria.

Currywurst. Okay, I've mentioned this before, but it's the best. I've only really had it here if I'm hanging out downtown at an event or with friends or something. If you're in Germany, you've got to stop and get some Currywurst mit Pommes.
It tastes better than it looks, I promise. |
Milk. Apparently milk isn't legally "milk" here if it's completely fat-free. I grew up drinking fat-free milk, so I'm just accustomed to that taste. The normal milk here is delicious, but a little too rich for my afternoon beverage. Sometimes I'm just craving a cold, tall glass of milk when I come home from a long day of school. Refreshing to the hundredth power.
